I have a question for all you weather people--is the pacific Alaskan ridge still in place or is that old news?
Kind of waning off now, since winter is ending. But it still is warmer than normal up there. Anchorage hit 50 F today, while their average high is just 44 F. The entire week is slightly above average.

Very odd their July record low is 34 F . Ours is 40 F, which tells you a lot about volatility of weather here.
I wonder if it could be argued that Alaska had a better (warmer) winter than Chicago did this year? I know nothing about Alaska other than it's cold there lol.

It had a better winter than northern new jersey, for all I know. -9 F with a real feel of -21 F was the lowest recorded here .

Alaska is huge. Believe it or not, there are some coastal areas that are normally milder than Chicago during the winter.
Btw, during the winter, warmer is definitely not "better".... But it is in all other seasons.
Fairbanks blows us out of the water even during their "warm" winter...

Look at Fairbbanks extreme max! Stays under 50 whereas Chicago is above 60. Tells me even if they had an extreme warm year they would still be colder or close to Chicagos normal range.

Places in Alaska had a warmer winter than Chicago had this year, but Alaska had one of their warmest winters on record, while Chicago, Illinois had one of its coldest winters on record.
Looking ahead I don't see many changes yet.. Status Quo with some above normal Pops and Below normal drops. So Average seems to be the constant still.
GFS hinting at another cold shot coming into the East. If you run the loop and focus on the 850mb freezing line you can see each time it's further north. Naturally in Spring it does.
This frame is for hour 168 Sunday morning the 27th. 1034mb High pressure dropping in from Canada. 850mb freezing line to Mid Atlantic States and trough goes a bit negative. For here this means Highs of 50s and Lows of 30s end of April which would be below normal.
Great Lakes areas would be cold here with max in the 30s/40s F° and lows in the 20s (below freezing)
So a front comes through that weekend in the East, notice the storm 992mb low still off the coast of Maine at this hour and gets cold behind the front
EURO does NOT agree on getting as cold. Euro has been horrible past 4 months with temps.
Gonna have 30 people over, and roasting a whole lamb
