Hmm, I think a few people pretend to be more cold tolerant than they really are.
And I did not interpret the thread that way, I interpreted it as the coldest temperature that I wear shorts on an everyday basis.
I am not going to say -20c of even 2c because that is rediculous.
Perhaps by your (relatively warm) winter standards, you find people's claims to be unreliable.
But by most North American winter standards, I find nothing particularly outrageous about people's claims.
And moreover, I do not claim to be particularly "cold resistant" (I'm probably average). Nor do I care whether other people perceive me to be macho or not. I just really enjoy cold weather and try to get the most out of it, that's all.
I was wearing shorts while I took this video but I was only outside during the duration of the video that time (temp was at -27C, which is displayed at 1:49): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4w45mZ6VLw

I do find it outrageous. In the summer it can be 10c in the day and I wear shorts, it does not bother me, I could even wear shorts at cooler temps but once it gets colder at 5c I have to wear proper clothes.
I do not wear shorts below 5c and I don't want to. Anybody could wear shorts at -20c but not one person feels comfortable, it burns and hurts. I am telling you now these people are trying to act cool and one up on each other.
I am giving the honest truth with the temp that I do find myself comfortable in shorts and that is about 7c. Considering they think 20c is cool there is no way that on an average day they could wear shorts at 7c and not feel cold
Oh and I will not put my skin in jeopardy to try and one up someone, people who ware shorts below 5c are fools.
When I was a student I once worked in a factory that made surgelated meals and my job was to receive the food and store it in different compartiments (fruits, vegetables, fish, etc).
There was one room which was refrigerated at -24c to store the food that had to remain below freezing cold.
It was summer, so i was wearing shorts, and it would have been useless to bring a coat to do the job, so everyday when came the people who brought food that had to remain cold, I entered that room in shorts and a tshirt to put the food inside.
I usually didn't stay for very long.
A coupld of weeks after I started came another boss who had been on vacation and pointed me in the direction of a specific coat that had to be worn for that. Nobody had told me about it.

I once went into a cold room at Woolworths to get milk when the shop was short – they asked nothing of me and I tried to be unobtrusive. It surprises me that special coats should have to be used in a country that – although warm for its latitude – is not as hot as most of Australia!
I generally wear shorts if it’s above 20˚C (68˚F) maximum – though my experience in Hobart’s clear air suggests better sun protection is needed then. I would have worn shorts on cool mornings of about 7˚C (45˚F) quite a number of times in Melbourne – it’s not uncomfortable when it gets above 20˚C or so even momentarily.
