Really. I find that difficult to believe. I live 40 miles southwest of NYC and fall colors usually peak around mid October. By mid November, all the trees in my area are barren. Trees have already started changing colors over here.
You're inland, so it makes sense. The Jersey Shore peaks in early November, NYC is "supposed" to peak in late Oct/early Nov, but that isn't always the case. Last year, the trees were still fully green during Hurricane Sandy in late October, and the trees (fallen or not) that managed to retain their leaves during the storm were still largely green during "Athena" which struck on November 7-8th, some even fully green, according to the pictures on my phone.
I would have to go with New York on this. Dallas's October is warmer than London's July (!), hence it wouldn't feel autumnal at all to me. On the other hand, Moscow's cool October temperatures would be more suitable for November as far as I'm concerned.
I had thought NYC, as it's only 1.5C cooler than here, but the drop from 24C in the previous month down to 17.7C, would be quite unpleasant. These continental climates, with their big monthly drops, would be unacceptable for me.
Yup. One of the worst features of these climates. People in Florida go from 88F to 76F summer to winter. I go from 87F to 40F in the same time frame. But yeah the drop from September to December feels the worst to me. In particular late October to mid December. It we have a mild December not so much. But a below normal December is not fun at all.

74 down to 56 here, so a fairly mild drop. At least your climate and NYC don't have a grey season to contend with as well, that would be as bad as a big temp drop imo, and both together, would be terrible. I guess on the upside, it will warm up in spring at the same rate.

It's not the temperatures that I don't like, which are nice and very close to here for April (8C-19C), but rather the drop from the preceding month, nearly 7C in one month, which would make the difference quite contrasting.
NYC easily- classic fall with lots of sun, some rain, gradually cooling temperatures, and lots of pretty colors to enjoy in Central Park, with all the glamour of Manhatten np right next door.
