If only you could get the same sort of weather pattern Egypt and Israel have experienced recently . You're currently getting a sneak preview of what winter is like in the American South - you wouldn't be too far off if you added 10C to your warmer nights this month (yes, as freakish as that might sound, 17C nights occur a few times every winter across the South).

December snowfall in NYC historically is very predictive of how the winter as a whole will turn out. The chances look good for above-normal snowfall there this month, which would bode well for the January-March period.

The weather guy has went into hiding after mucking up the forecast. Was only suppose to get an inch or two today and it started last night and hasn't stopped. I had the plow guy come in yesterday afternoon thinking we'd be good for a few days, but I guess not. I grabbed a screen of our radar showing the typical lake effect bands that set up and just keep producing. We had a white Christmas scenario set up a month ago, now it's just a game of trying to stay ahead of it this year.

5C here and sunny. Snow is melting quite fast in these conditions. It snowed a while yesterday afternoon, but we got only very light additional accumulation. Still, this is the 8th consecutive day of us having snow on the ground. That's good for us for mid-December, so I'm not complaining.

What does this mean in regards to Thursdays snow?

Uppers aren't that impressive, mostly just -5Cs according to the latest GFS, but with such low air pressure it won't matter that much because 850hpa isn't particularly 'high' compared to normal

What, on the hill behind your house? Doesn't count unless it's low level.

I spent the weekend in NYC. Windy with snow all day yesterday, then I think it changed to rain during the evening. I was following the temperature at home and it was in the teens for most of the storm. Quite cold for a snowstorm in this area.
