Motueka NZ 41.06S 8m/24ft asl

Average maximum: 15.4C/60F (+1.7C)

Average minimum: 2.1 C/36F (+ 0.3C)

Rainfall : 348 mm/15 inches (+200 mm)

Rain days: 9

Thunder days: 2 -mediocre

Sunshine: 127 hours (- 17 hours)

Highest maximum: 20.8C/71F

Lowest maximum: 7C/45F

Highest minimum: 10C/50F

Lowest minimum -3.2C/26F

Overall, a warm, very wet, cloudier month. Some big rain totals ( 100 mm/4 inches in 4 hours) during the middle of the month, with very little cloud during a 10 day period. The last 10 days has seen frost on most days and almost total sunshine.

I'm going to give it an 8/10, as it was cloudy and there has been little snow on the mountains so far.

Alos noting that the monthly mean for the country as a whole will be slightly up, despite some deficits in the snow-hit areas. The "loony tunes" forecaster is already off-beam of course - he always calls for "cold" winters, and has been wrong for 13 of the last 15 years. Here's part of his spiel:

". Further snow dumps arrive around 27-30 June for the Central Plateau, Southland and Otago.

July

July will be a spectacular month for snow, with reports of road and school closures the subject of daily front page newspaper stories. The sun is furthest from earth in the first week of July, called aphelion, which itself is sufficient to cause a temperature drop. July’s first week brings snow over the south of the NI to about 400 meters, and again to low levels in the east of the SI."

June 2012 in Zagreb:
Everything listed below, plus:
Most precipitation in one day: 20.3mm on the 24th
Lowest high: 16.5c on the 4th
Highest low: 24.3c on the 20th, which had a high of 36.3c

Overall, it gets a B- from me. It would've been much better without the prolonged heat and the drought.

June statistics for Chicago. O'Hare is on the northwest side of the city, Midway in the south. O'Hare is 19km from the lake, Midway 16km. O'Hare is in a bit of a frost hollow surrounded by the DesPlaines River watershed and some forest preserve.... Northerly Island is right on the shore. As you can see, the cool lake waters in June has an effect on this station's temperatures. Northerly Island's max is 3.5C cooler than Midway's.

Pretty lame month. Below average.

Compared to June 2012
