Just wondering. Have you ever seen a sub-zero reading in April?

According to TWC, the latest sub-zero day was March 20, 1967 (-5 F). On March 26, 1960, the record low was 0.

Record low for the month of April is 10 F.

Sorry, never a subzero, let alone sub 10 F reading here in Portland, TX. The absolute coldest its ever been here is 12 F above zero (December 23rd, 1989). We have only been in the teens 14 times since records have been kept (since 1898), which averages out to about once every 8 years!

Our latest sub 20 F reading occured on February 2nd, 1951 (19 F).

As far as I know, Vancouver has never recorded a sub-zero Fahrenheit temperature. The coldest temperature ever recorded here was 0F on January 14, 1950.

I would suspect they are possible from mid-Nov until mid-Mar.
I have seen them (though I'd rather forget them ) in late-Nov and earliest Mar.

Central Park's latest sub-zero of the season happened on February 17th (1896). I imagine Long Island's is earlier (maybe about 2/9, 2/10, etc.).

Long Island's (JFK) last sub-zero temperature occurred in 1986 (24 years ago), got down to a bone crushing -2°F. Glad I wasn't around at that time.

A check of Grand Forks North Dakota records back to 1883...indicate 7 times when there was a below zero temperature (degrees F) recorded in the month of April. Last time was on April 6th, 1979 when it was -7F

The earliest below zero temperature was on Nov 9th....

Our earliest sub-zero temperature was December 1, 1967.

Looking at the records, it seems as though 1966 and 1967 had a lot of record lows throughout the whole year.

Here in Portland, TX., on average, our first freeze usually occurs around December 26th, with the last freeze around January 28th. We average 1-3 freezes a year, with many years not seeing any at all.

Our earliest freeze on record: November 13, 1916 (32°F)

Our latest freeze on record: March 27, 1913 (32°F)

This past winter was our 6th coldest on record (December-February). For the past winter season, we saw our first freeze on December 5th, 2009, and our last freeze on January 10th, 2010. We had a total of 4 freezes during the past winter, with the coldest night dropping to a record cold 25°F on January 9th (the previous record low had been 28°F, set back in 1976).

Correction: It was actually 1985 (25 years ago), not 1986.
