It was great to have sun, mild summer temps and no severe heat wave like last year. It would be nice to have the sun and rain mixed up more like it is in the midwest. There's nothing like a nice summer thunderstorm followed by sunshine in summer. But this area has a different climate with its pluses and minuses.

Today I had nice morning paddling on the Columbia thru the mist. It was calm and not too hot.

We went razor clam digging in Long Beach last night.
The weather was fantastic.
It was slightly over 80 degrees late in the afternoon.

I got there at 4:30 and played frisbee with the dog for a while then went clamming when my friends arrived.
About 6:00 there was a nice fog bank that came in and the temps went down to low mid 60’s.
The weather was still nice so I hung around a few more hours.

I forgot a change of cloths so I did the long drive home soaked and covered in sand.

It was in the mid 40’s this morning when I was doing the cleaning and processing.
Almost firewood time.

The air quality is unhealthy again. It was supposed to get better today but it took a turn this morning. So no hiking or outdoor activities today.

Air is good for now. Windows were wide open all last night. The cool misty breeze made me sleep like a baby.

Air quality was ok this morning but is getting progressively worse and hazier, more smoke smell. Still dry, no rain.

It's been nice and clear blue sky in Vancouver with decent air as well. Though we had a new small fire start nearby out east in the local mountains - darn dry conditions. They're saying its human caused. So, if the winds switch, we'll get more smoke.

Air quality is terrible- 150 range and its worsening. The hills in the distance are hidden with smoke haze. Today is the worst its been this year, and we're under an air quality warning until Sunday night. It's also supposed to get hot up into the high 70s today and tomorrow. Weird October weather. There's another fire in the North Cascades and some trails up there are closed.

I was a bit concerned having planned a WA fall color getaway this weekend. Fortunately lake Mayfield where we paddled at on the way to Mt. Rainier had fairly decent air, blue skies with a nice side wind.

For some reason, you have the worst of it statewide it looks like. We only have mild smoke affects down south. Even eastern WA where there are more fires has better air. That seems a bit bizarre. Then the Olympic Peninsula looks pretty good also. It's really focused on Seattle and surrounding areas right now.

We explored a new paddle location at Mayfield Lake on the way to Mt. Rainier today. I was concerned about paddling in bad air quality. But for some reason that area was nice and not too smoky at all. There was a nice side wind which may have helped. The oddest part of all was that it felt like a warm summer day but with fall colors and with no people. It was like a host town. Here are a few pics of the day,
