I strongly suggest the metro, if not for the traffic, the pure distance and amount of stop-lights would slow you down. You're one lucky person to live in DuPont though, I wish I did live in that area. I don't know many people who reverse commute out of the city, so I'm not sure how bad the traffic would be leaving out of the city. I would suggest you buy yourself a SmartTrip and just test if you prefer to drive or metro to White Flint.

Edit: Also, do you know if you will be near White Flint station or not? I know you may not want to walk that far from the station, so that also should play a factor in rather your metro or drive.
