Looking at a house on Monroe St NW. I'll be working on Dupont. Its a great house, in a great location but there's no easy way (metro) to get to Dupont.
Theres a bus that takes about 15 min to get to Dupont, but I'm just a bit worried about the reliability of buses during the winter, etc.
I don't want to walk to the Columbia Heights metro, then transfer in Chinatown, then redline it to Dupont...
I think you can also catch the H3 or H4 from Park Road/Adams Mill to Cleveland Park metro station and then take the Metro to Dupont Circle.
When I lived in the area, I found the buses to be fairly reliable during the winter. While there might be delays, they showed up eventually and made the rounds.
I live on a bus line and they are pretty reliable. They only become infrequent pretty late at night. The only time they didn't run was during the crazy snowstorm but the whole city was pretty much shut down so I wouldn't say that was normal.
Also, they have a deal called nextbus so if you have data service on your phone you can check when the next 2-3 buses are coming. It is pretty accurate at least for the line I ride. Although, at this point, I basically have the schedule memorized so I don't always use it.
The #42/43 may be late here and there but its works, and runs more often than most buses in the city. I've never waited more than 20 minutes at night for the bus to come, and that rare most of the time it comes within 15 minutes
It's also a really nice little bike ride (1.5-2 mi.): all downhill, and you can craft a route that's mostly on shaded smaller streets.
