Precip is starved out there so not expecting much as we once thought. A bit less than thought. Mid week and next weekend are the storms to watch. I think this storm today is setting the stage being that its priming the atmosphere.

NWS for today.

WARM FRONT TO MOVE NORTH ACROSS THE AREA THROUGH MONDAY
AFTERNOON. SNOW WILL MOVE INTO THE REGION TODAY...BUT CHANGE OVER
TO MIXED PRECIPITATION ACROSS MUCH OF THE AREA THIS AFTERNOON.
WARM AIR WILL CHANGE PRECIP TO RAIN IN THE SOUTHERN SAINT
LAWRENCE VALLEY PRETTY QUICKLY. TEMPERATURES ARE ACTUALLY ALREADY
ABOVE FREEZING NEAR THERE. ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE VERY
LIGHT

The low will form down south tomorrow and move up. Lots of precip with this one. Looks like a Rain to heavy snow type event for Tuesday.

This is from the Euro for Tuesday 7pm. Would be snow in Vermont by this point. Tuesday looks to be messy throughout the Northeast with Rains and Snows

We got enough snow this evening to shovel the driveway and make things white again. About 3" in North Troy. Cambium - By heavy snow, do you mean wet snow or a good dumping?

Heavy Wet flakes for Tuesday night maybe another inch or so. I havent checked the latest. Congrats on the white stuff. Do you have a pic I can share on my weather page? All rain down here. Icy roads shut down some highways in MA.

Take a look at the 8:30pm setup 12/16/12. Classic CAD!

Light Blue background is where the 5000 foot level is above freezing. Numbers on the map are the surface temps. So basically where the surface is below freezing under the light blue areas is mostly freezing rain falling. Freezing Rain Advisories into Northern CT because of it. Winter Advisories elsewhere and Winter Storm Warnings for parts of NH and ME.

SUMMARY...THE COVERAGE AND INTENSITY OF WINTER MIXED PRECIPITATION
ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE AFTER 04Z. FREEZING RAIN WITH RATES OF 0.05
INCH PER 3 HOURS WILL BE POSSIBLE. ALSO...SNOW RATES APPROACHING 1
IN/HR MAY OCCUR FROM CNTRL/ERN VT INTO W-CNTRL NH AFTER 10Z.

Keep an eye on the big storm out in the mid section, that will play a role in our weather for Friday.

Right now there are blizzard watches for Kansas and Nebraska and 6-10" to fall from Iowa to Wisconsin.Thundersnows possible. Chicago rain with 50-60mph wind gusts unless the storm shifts east then Chicago might get snow and wind.. The storm then starts moving east and Vermont might see some heafty accumulations as well on Friday.

Here's HPC storm tracks..

I think those numbers look to be what the forecasts here are calling for. "After a wintry mix on Friday morning, we'll see a changeover to just plain rain during the afternoon. The rain will taper off late in the day as colder air starts to move in. Snow showers will begin Friday night and last through Saturday, on-and-off, bringing a coating of snow to the valleys and possibly a few inches in the mountains." Temps tomorrow should be in the 40's and they also released a "High Wind Warning" with gusts of 65 mph. They are calling for downed trees and power lines.

This mornings forecast mentioned this could end up as the warmest December ever on record.
