Could it be Kunming, Yunnan Province, China? The famous “Flying Tigers” of WW2 were connected to that city.

Yes it is Kunming. Stillwell Road ( Ledo India to Kunming) Burma Road, American Air Base & supply route during world war II and a Railway Line to Vietnam made this city a very strategic location . Boom in Chinese economy has made this city unrecognisable now. Hope to see them rebuild Ledo Road again one day.

Been there a few times, most recently this week last year and again in October. Mobile, Alabama. Its downtown is a cleaner mini version of The French Quarter... Mobile is 10 years older than New Orleans. The shorter building is the Renaissance.

Mobile it is. When I was a kid, I loved visiting the battleship USS Alabama in Mobile Bay on our frequent family trips from Atlanta to see family in New Orleans. The automobile tunnel under the bay was pretty cool too.
