I watch alot of english tv but rarely hear different regional accents.
What shows(past or present) feature different accents & dialects..
And would be good examples??
Here are a few shows/characters i have noticed:

Peep Show Jeff Heaney (Liverpool?)
Little Britain Vikki Pollard (Chav+Cornwall??)lol
All Creatures Great & Small(minor characters have yorkshire accents)
Coupling(I seem to recall a character who had a northern accent)

I think you mean the Welsh guy (aka the permanently horny one)?

Well, there's
Last of the Summer Wine - Yorkshire
Eastenders - self-explanatory
Poldark - Cornwall
Anything based on a Catherine Cookson novel - Northeast
The Likely Lads/When the Boat Comes in - Newcastle upon Tyne

All English characters have regional accents. Estuary English is as much an accent as any other.

You wouldn't understand a word if real regional accents would be used.

I have talked to people from various parts of england with no real trouble...
Do you mean that accents are much stronger than those heard on telly?

Not British telly I know, but what in the name of goodness knows what do they think the accents used by Daphne and her brother in 'Frasier' are?

I've never heard anyone like them, especially the brother!

Still, the alternative is that the English are either ultra-posh or Estuary English.

Funny you mention that....
Daphne was supposed to born in Manchester and raised in Lancashire.
The rest of her family all his different accents including a brother with a cockney..
Accent. The brother was american but had a "posh" american accent if that..
Exist's lol. I have never heard anyone talk like that lol

Daphne (from Frasier's) accent is definitely broad Lancashire and certainly not Manchester. Born in Manchester, maybe, but certainly not raised here. Blackburn or Bolton, maybe. Does'nt detract from my enjoyment of the show, though. BTW, John Mahoney ( Martin Crane) really IS from Manchester. Went over to the States when he was about 20.

For Manc accents, check out.

Life On Mars: Philip Glenister - a Londoner - is superb as Gene Hunt, give or take the odd glitch ( like calling Salford 'Sulford').

Shameless: David Threlfall as Frank Gallagher - drunken/stoned Manc. Generally good for Manc accents, though some broad Lancs accents slip through.

The Royle Family: Jim, the Dad, is a Liverpudlian. That aside, authentic Manc from locals like Caroline Aherne.

Coronation Street reflects smaller Lancashire towns ( like Bolton, Preston, Oldham) more than it does Manchester.
