I can tell you that this happens all of the time. Part of my responsibility with my company is to take calls on the weekends for our buildings when perimeter alarms or interior motion detectors go off and determine whether the police need to be dispatched. The damned alarms go off all of time, constantly, incessantly, for no reason, when you are trying to have a few drinks, watch a movie, spend time with the family, etc.
I think insects set them of, possibly dust. I also think they just malfunction.
Fortunately for me, none of the buildings that I am responsible for at the moment have them, but I literally went through a two-year period when maybe every other weekend I was getting a call from the alarm company over nothing. As for you, don't worry about it.
