I hope a new courthouse happens one day. I've been living here for over 25 years and there's been talk and speculation all that time. For the record, I think we have the ugliest courthouse I've ever seen presently.

I thought of not responding at all. I DO hope I can refrain to comment again, as this goes on for years.

I actually HATE the new choice, which will likely be the chosen option. All the talk, which I have kept up with, "with bated breath" was 80% of responders to the possible locations, was to return the courthouse back to the very center of the square, reclosing Broadway. Plans showed that businesses would be little affected, and traffic as well would not be slowed harmed by the courthouse being in the center, again. It would have four, front sides, each side WOULD purposely look like the main entrance.

Now, on top of all that, plans now include "saving the old courthouse EYESORE, oh my ---. Please tear that ugly "thing" down. There has never been any mention to renovate, remodel, to lessen its ugliness. It was stated often, it would be too costly to renovate the thing AGAIN. This courthouse looks like a small building just stuck of to the side of downtown. Something suitable for a very small rural county. It appears to be little to be proud of as a centerpiece of a downtown area, which supposedly all the talk was about, trying to achieve something to be actually proud of, NO, not an over the top expensive project.

Anyway, I hope this is will not be as crappy as it appears to be at this time. Can't they at least destroy that monster that would continue to sit, right in front, of our supposedly pride an joy, the NEW COURTHOUSE?

I held off, hold on and I'll tell you later, what I REALLY think. No, lol this time, this is simply s---.

It's OK, Mark! LOL

I think we need a new convention center personally, before the courthouse thing - but no one with any means to change anything has asked me! So I'm just along for wherever the ride takes me I guess.

Yep, we do, no doubt about it. I'm too old, to care this much, lol WHATEVER, lol But, I did call and politely told commissioners court what I thought, they, of course, suggested I come and speak at a meeting. I said I can see you have all agreed already, just the details are coming for a vote in November. Why bother to waste the time.

I can't believe that retailers are spending so much money renovating the mall. Oh well, good luck to them.

Well, when I've been there just to walk around when it's too cold or rainy, I've noticed the mall had no empty spaces. Sure, shops/stores have come and gone, or come and go, but it was full. These new stores, Dick's Sporting Goods should do well, IF, we really can support another sporting goods store? The Discount Home Goods Store, well we don't have something exactly like that store, to my knowledge. I can't remember the other retail, but it seemed to be something we don't have. Then will we support the Longhorn Steakhouse?

Also, you did notice the new natural foods store, can't remember the name, coming to the old Hastenings Book Store Location, the permit was issued, we had to wait a couple of months, for the city to agree to put a stoplight at Shelley and Broadway for better access. The food store, can't remember the name, WILL reimburse the city for the cost.

Sooooooooo, just IMHO, that part of Tyler is NOT dying, apparently, lol. So maybe that is the reason for the risk, I too think, the developers are taking, but maybe not. Just my two and one quarters cents worth.

The name of the new natural food store is Sprouts and I'm really looking forward to it!

I have reservations about whether or not the Tyler metro area can support another sporting goods store, so we'll see on that one.

If I owned or worked at Saltgrass, I'd be concerned about Longhorn Steak House.

As for Home Goods, I think it's similar to At Home, but a bit smaller. I hope it goes over well. It's a better location than At Home for me personally.

We'll see!

Longview has a Dicks and Academy store. If they can support theirs, I know damn well Tyler can support theirs

Sorta, you may be correct, but Tyler has Gander, and whatever that other sporting goods store, I don't shop at on South Broadway, plus another sporting goods store, a Tyler only, not a chain on old Jacksonville highway on the left before you get to Grande. The one that had to leave Times Square when the Grand Slam was built.

Time will tell, who stays and who closes, if any, just saying.
