It doesn't sound like Danny will be getting his own restaurant at the Borgata afterall, he will be given a chefs position under chef Stephen Kalt at a Italian restaurant called Fornelletti.

'Hell's Kitchen' finale recap: Danny Veltri is the winner - NJ.com

Also, the $250,000 "prize" is actually his salary in his position for the first year only. So he does not earn the $250K for winning HC, but he will be earning that over the next year. And no guarantee about whether he will stay employed after the first year. Don't get me wrong, $250K is a lot for a salary, but throughout the show, they made it sound like the winner will be getting his/her own restaurant. Unless, they mean he will be working under Stephen Kalt to learn how to run a Italian restaurant before he takes it over, but who knows? I guess it's left up for your own interpretation.
Interesting, didn't know the prize was his salary I knew he wouldn't be head chef at a top restaurant.

I just started watching HK this season, and also a couple of weeks ago borrowed the Season One DVD set from my local library.

I didn't realize that this just-ended season was the FIFTH! Isn't it a bit unusual for a tv series to be already into Season Five before issuing Season One on DVD?? Most other series (House, Boston Legal, probably any primetime one you could name) have been issuing the prior season's DVD set a couple of weeks before the upcoming one starts to air.

So it's weird that HK let four seasons go buy without marketing their first one on DVD. Anyone know the reason for such a long delay?

From what I understand, Fornelletti is the new Italian restaurant at the Borgata. I didn't expect the winner to be given a restaurant like this "lock, stock, and barrel". Rather the winner would be the head chef at the GR restaurant for their one year contract period.

Take some time and Google the past winners and other keywords about the show. There is some really interesting information out there.

I didn't know the winner of season 1 never went to his HK prize job in London. Season 2 winner (Heather) finished her contract at RedRocks and was working in Seattle. Also learned that season 2 contestant Rachel has passed away. More recent winner Rock is now in this second restaurant after his contract with GR ended.

Finally, I learned HK 6 premieres in July 2009!

I knew the prize was a $250,000 salary for one year at whatever restaurant GR is promoting. I think they tell us that at the start of the first episode and repeat it occasionally throughout the series at different times.

Yes it was. It was filmed back to back with season 4 that aired in 2008.
