First off let me say that I'm VERY APPRECIATIVE of some of your comments regarding who you think is good tonight . Sometimes during the 2 hrs I need to run off and do something and now I know what singers to NOT miss ! So thank you !!
As far as having to do spoilersalerts or not, I'm glad we have them, but it seems rather silly for folks to come read the thread before the show or during it, "IF" they don't want to know what happened . Please folks, if you don't want to know, then don't read the thread till AFTER you've watched !
My girl Hollie Cavanagh tore it up on stage in my opinion. Was happy to see her do well. I must admit, the guys are kind of boring thus far in the competition. I can't point to a single one who I think can win this whole thing so far. I think Jessica Sanchez may be the one to beat.
The judges say it every year, and it's usually not even remotely true, but there is some incredible talent this year. A few of the kids choked a little bit, but no one egregiously like contestants in the past. When I think back to seasons where we had contestants like "Goat Girl," "Pen Boy," "Chicken Little," and "Sanjaya," it's hard to believe the show is still on the air. But to see how far it's come in terms of sussing out talent ... breathtaking. Not one of these performers sucked tonight.
Also interesting, aside from Jessica Sanchez, whom everyone is raving about, none of the girls tried to "do" Whitney, which the judges come down on contestants every year for attempting, and I was extremely impressed with how well they all reinterpreted her music. And the boys did very well with Stevie, too, who is very hard to sing. Very.
So congrats to all of them. This'll be a tough year to judge and voting will come down to personalities more than talent, I suspect.
For a first night of real competition, I have to give credit to everyone. As a previous poster said, not one of the performers sucked last night.
I wasn't really blown away by any of the guys, but I liked the way Deandre performed. He was really into it. Also liked Phillip Phillips' performance, though he is, in reality, one of my least favorites of the whole group.
The standouts for me last night were Jessica (WOW!), Hollie and Erika.
I felt really bad that they changed up Elyse's song at the last minute. She can do SO much better than that. I hope America likes her enough from previous performances to keep her in the competition. I think Shannon should go home.
Before last night my favorite all-time performance was David Cole singing "Billie Jean."
Jessica blew that one out of the water. I have rarely been as touched by a perfomance as I was by her rendition of "I Will Always Love You." That child has one amazing voice. I have goose bumps just thinking about it. What a little jewel she is.

Agree. But I honestly wish she had sung another powerful song. We've heard that one too much!

I bet Whitney would be proud on how well she nailed it.
