This forum is a good indicator as by searching this forum there has been many threads on issues.

Consumer reports listed the common problems drivers has had.
  • Excessive Oil Consumption
  • Defective Exterior Paint
  • Transmission Failure
  • Vehicle Speed Control Issues
  • Unexpected Air Bag Deployment
To avoid dealing with most common Toyota Camry issues, it is important you purchase your car from a reputable dealer. It is in their best interest to sell you a car without problems since their reputation may very well be on the line. As well, make sure to check out the history of your vehicle to see if any of these issues have occurred or if it has been in any accidents (this can usually done through the VIN number).

Common Toyota Camry Problems and Issues to Look Out For
Sunny, do you realize you said "Consumer Reports" but link to a very mysterious website instead? I can only find about 40K links to consumer-car-reviews.com and most of them are SEO related or "click here for info on" or articles from them. I can't find anywhere on their site a statement of ownership or a "contact us" AND consumer-car-reviews.com is registered through a privacy service to prevent people from knowing who the owner is.

I did find a link from a Gas Buddy entry for whatever that is. But, anyone that appears to be writing something as a journalist that doesn't disclose who they are or what they are up to has to leave one thinking journalism isn't what's going on here.

The weird thing is, the articles feel like boiler plate but I can't determine that. I think someone is having fun for an unknown cause.

Ding ding. I had Javascript turned off so I didn't see the ads. I almost left a post on Gas Buddy asking blogger why he linked there but. . . well he either found something he wanted to agree with or something else is going on.

I've had 3 Camrys in a row and never a probelm, excpet a sun visor issue in the current one that they fixed free (on my 4+ year old car).

In fact my previous 13 year old Camry with 250,000 km was way more reliable, and MUCH less expensive to repair than a friend's brand new Chevy.

There is not one automobile model out there that is free of problems. But in the case of Toyota, Subaru, and Honda, these three companies are quite good taking care of the problems. That's why I never complain about their recalls, because it means that they are taking care of the problems.

The Camry has to be the most boring and pedestrian car on the market.

I agree. I was looking at one today, and no matter how much I tried to like it, I just couldn't do it. Toyota needs to outsource their auto design department and stop using nerds, dweebs, and goobers to design these vehicles.

I have fallen down as far as make and model. Current is a Camry which I find more than adequate (2012). It drives nice even if not exciting. I get lost in the drive due to the Bluetooth and iPod connectivity. I don't find it boring at all.

My last car was an Acura and the two before that were BMWs including the hottest sports sedan of its generation. THAT was excitement especially the stupid things that would go wrong with the BMW and the transmission failing in the Acura while cruising the interstate. I remember those things more than I remember enjoying daily driving over 100mph. Not to mention the gas millage.

While I don't expect it to shed it's reputation anytime soon, it doesn't matter to me. It's more than adequate.

It's ok, we all get old.

Depends what you're looking for, I was around 32 when I got my first one, that after a Honda Accord. I don't look to my car for excitement and, quite frankly, I'd rather have safety, reliability and low cost maintenance.

The last time around, I tried to break out of my shell and buy an Altima but the inside width and trunk room were smaller and I didn't want to scale down that way.

It's about the same in terms of quality/reliability, which means very good, though there are tradeoffs. I have a 2009 LE and find the interior plastics appearing cheaper than the earlier generation models, of around 1992 to about 1998. Maybe the feel of the plastics in the earlier cars are better than today, but OTOH, today's cars are less likely to have cracked dashboard tops after years of exposure to the sun, compared with cars of 30-40 years ago due to changes in materials, I've heard.
