So far my Toyota Camry 2005 is a pleasure to drive and I'm not surprised that Camry is a bestseller in 2008, but who can afford to buy a new car in this environment, this is the question ????
Plenty of people can. Ones that have their house payment in order, haven't had their income drastically cut (or at all), and even if they're theoretically a little down in their investments, see it as long-term and never saw that as "lets get a new car!" money anyway. The average savings rate of this hypothetical family has been cut a bit, since a buck doesn't go as far, but it's still within their bounds, and they're not worried about going into panic mode.
Lots of those people exist. They managed to sell (albeit few) cars in the 1930's too, and if that was possible, then, heck, this is a cakewalk.
I've got an '07 Solara - the drop top version of the Camry. I love my ragtop!
I bought it used with 90k on it 2 years ago... I do regular oil changes - have had the transmission fluid changed - basic stuff - I love my ride!
The car it replaced was a '99 Chrysler Sebring convertible - and had I known the differences in this car and that car, that car would have been replaced a long time ago...
And today, it's 80+ here, guess who's driving home with the top down?

I have an 02 Solara coupe. I usually have the sunroof popped open. It is an awesome car. Plenty of giddy up. The leather seats are the best. I put about 80 miles a day on it.
