Well, I haven't read through all 50+ pages, but I will say this...

I have always been told by my parents that people from outside of Texas hate it, and people native to Texas love it. Texas is a very prideful state, especially compared to others. When there is an American flag, there is a Texas flag. This isn't seen in most other states.

I think that we(Texans) have a unique mentality that others just don't share. For example, I constantly hear fellow Texans saying that Texas is the most friendliest place to be. Yet, I have heard from numerous non-residents that Texans are just rude and selfish. (Particularly, Austin and Dallas.)

I am from Austin and think Dallas is better than Houston. However, Metroplex reminds me of New Jersey..... Just roads and roads, all over the place.

Austin is the best city in Texas, without a doubt. And, we are different than Texas. Way more liberal, way more educated, and we have a vibrant city that everyone here is proud of.

I wasn't born here, nor did I grow up here, but I'm here now, have been for a couple of decades plus, and it's probably for good. I have ZERO regrets. It's a fantastic state.

Sorry but Austin is really not different from Texas. Only people who truly believe that are outsiders and Austinites. Texans consider Austin just another Texas city.

Not really... aside from housing the state capital and a huge state university, I never thought Austin was so dramatically different from the rest of the state. It's nice to be a little proud, but after hearing it beyond annoyance, to most Texans I think it becomes Austitude.

Truth is, Austin is just more homogeneous. In many ways, it's comparable with large college towns in other states, which are almost always overall more educated and liberal than other areas of their states, as expected.
Houston and Dallas are much larger, less homogeneous, and more comparable with similar-sized peers in other states. Although specific parts of town pull down the rankings, they certainly have many enclaves that are just as vibrant, well-educated, or whatever else as Austin. They also have many of the big-city amenities and culture that Austin lacks, as expected. So "best city" is rather subjective.

I like Austin. But I think Austin may have replaced Dallas as the most arrogant city in Texas. But its a different kind of arrogant.

yeah, an unfounded arrogance J/K, actually I like Austin alot, but I get tired of hearing this bs of "austin is a oasis in a desert" "a blue haven in a sea of red" etc. Please gimme a break. You'll find many a liberal in Dallas and Houston, Fort Worth not so much

Haha that's true, I suppose it is really just about what you make of it. Sure, everyone sees Houston/Metroplex as conservative but I'm sure they have their fair share of left-leaning liberals, and if people chill with those kind of people, they might just feel like the place is a little more liberal than it actually is.

I'd say more than Austin. Austin's liberals just get more "hype" (probably because of UT), but it definitely isn't as liberal as Houston and Dallas.

That's a good point. I'd also say the posters on the C-D from these cities (DFW & Houston) also lean more to the left than the typical resident, thus enhancing the effect, at least on the forums.
