I noticed that whites in Texas on average are more likely to have the heavy Texan accent than blacks and hispanics. Does anybody else here notice this as well ?

Ya gotta explain a bit more, podner, ifn' you want a good answer!

Seriously. As in, where are you from orginally? Where do you live now? What do you mean by a "heavy" Texas accent? To who (or is it, whom? LOL) are you directing the question? Native Texans? Transplants?

Not meaning to be sarcastic (because, your question really can be an interesting one), but all the above have some bearing on it...

I don't know of any blacks or Mexicans that have a Texas accent. In my opinion and from what I've observed, they have their very own accent.

I agree with TexasReb's question above: which heavy Texas accent are you referring to? We've got more than one.

I'm white, have lived in Texas for over 24 years, and I don't have a "Texas" accent.

Everyone tends to speak the dialect they're taught. Many hispanics are learning English at the same time as Spanish as their parents usually speak spanish. They will then obtain an accent different than a typical "southern" accent because they're learning the words and pronouncing them differently.

Don't get me started on ebonics. Ebonics is just slang, and many who speak ebonics in a groups, do not speak ebonics when you're talking one on one. It's a culture thing.

Now, I'm fixin' ta run to da store. Yanta come too?

My friends and I always use "yanta" for "do you want to"... wanna and gonna are completely different words already combining words so yona wouldn't work.

All I'm seeing in these comments is improper English, a mispronunciation of a word such as hail, or a term such as fixin' to. I speak improperly all the time; I think we all do. I say wanna, dunno, doin', goin', and the like. I'm puzzled. What's jeetchet?

Anyway, an accent obviously is totally different. Some are thicker than others. There are people who speak quite properly, but one can still detect a southern accent.

I can't stand ebonics. That's so very irritating.
