I'm sorry, but those "rankings" don't hold much substance for me. It is interesting to see that Dallas won on the parks category...

I know.

Have you heard about the Westin going into the upper floors of One Main Place? The article doesn't mention it, but a few members on a Dallas forum have some dirt on the talk.

right? and yeah, that was interesting. it makes me wonder what their criteria was. like if it went by park land per person, and counted the 10,000 acres of Trinity Flood Plain as park land. if thats not the case, thats fairly impressive for Dallas. i just dont see how Dallas parks compete with Houstons parks, sans White Rock Lake.

more on AmREITs uptown developments..

AmREIT's response to buyout offer: No thanks - Houston Chronicle

Quote:
Houston-based Am- REIT, owner of the Uptown Park shopping center and other prime retail parcels here, rejected a buyout offer from Regency Centers Corp. on Tuesday and simultaneously announced plans for more than $650 million worth of new development in the Galleria area.

The projects, many proposed through complex joint-venture agreements or partnerships, are a 40-story multifamily tower; a 560,000-square-foot office project; a four-star hotel with residential units; and a luxury residential complex.

The new silver like in DC will connect with Dulles and it will be the second airport in the immediate metro area thy connects to its rail system.
And it will be slow and expensive and connect an airport that only international flyers and us outside-the-Beltway Nova folks really actually use. Even now (a week after the opening of the Silver Line) people are already complaining that it takes even longer to get to Dulles than before because the bus covered the same ground that the Silver Line does in less time due to the fact it does not stop and has dedicated lanes. From Downtown DC I'm estimating 60-70 minutes and $10 each way once the line is complete in 2018ish. Not overly competitive with DCA and about the same as to get to BWI (which is already a busier airport, and already has express commuter rail service via the Amtrak or the MARC).

Both Houston and DC need an express train between downtown and IAH/IAD that only stops a couple of times and can get you there in 30 minutes or so. I haven't tried the orange line to DFW yet, but it sounds like the travel time is also an issue there.
