Yes they are. It's been a miserable summer.

As expected, yesterday and today set all-time record highs at IAH (going back to 1889), notching a pair of 97s with plenty of humidity to go along with it (heat index ~104F). Should cool down a little this coming week, but it is still nasty out there.

Here where I live on the I-35 corridor in-between Austin and San Antonio, it is 102°F at my house with a heat index of 113°F.

Its pretty bad that 102 actually feels like a pretty tollerable day... just to give you an idea how hot it was getting the past month. I don't mind the insane heat though. I just wish it came with supplementing rain. When are we supposed to see the rain effects of El'Nino?

Supposedly El Nino winters tend to be cooler and wetter than baseline.

Please start, please start. I hate September in Texas. It seems like it should become cool but it just doesn't. Also, we need rain.

Speaking of rain, it did rain and storm all last night and slightly cooler temps are forecast for the next few days. It will "only" be in the upper 80s and lower 90s. Which will feel very cool to me!

September is that month that teases you. I remember in Seattle September was the exact opposite. 80 degree weather, the sun was shining for about 30 days out of the entire year, and the scenery and backdrops were actually visible rather than a overcast hue of grey and misery.. ..it was beautiful.. ..but so short lived..

I'm not looking forward to that. I enjoyed last year being so mild.

But the really cold snaps, I worried about power outages.

This year I'm getting a propane heater to have on hand and I got a second power bank for the phone.

Even though I grew up in the Caribbean, I'm ready for cold weather,
I'm sick and tired of this ridiculous heat

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but 2023 is set up to be even hotter in 2024. Will it be hotter in texas? Who knows, but the planet as a whole will be hotter than 2023.
