Cheerio!
Good point. In keeping the thread on track, where can I find the most Arlington-like area in Tampa Bay?

In your memories. And I'm not trying to be smart, there just isn't anything like it here, those places that are similar just don't have the scale or the same vibe..i.e. places like downtown safety harbor, downtown St. Pete, south tampa.
I think you would be disappointed if you tried to find Arlington here. the Tampa Bay area offers a lot, just not the same as Arlington..... enjoy those things that remind you of the good things about Arlington and celebrate the differences that make this area special.

Great question Billy. I wish it were that simple. I would have to agree with Cariad though having spent the past five years in the state (and seeing much of it). You will not find that here as I said in an earlier thread. I know you have driven thru and are still hoping to find that "hidden" area but it does not exist.

We are not trying to be negative nor are we Florida bashing. On the contrary, many nice things have been said about the area. But you are setting yourself up for dissapoinment if you are hoping for the Arlington lifestyle here. Trust me, I know.

Cariad gave very good advice! Come for the adventure and embrace the difference. Some love it and stay forever, some hate it and leave the first chance they get. That is about as honest a comment as I could make!

I can't think of any area here (or in Florida) with that type of lifestyle. There are some that are somewhat similar (Safety Harbor and Old Northeast in St Pete) but otherwise I think one has to let go and create something different for themselves without that expectation.

Are DC-NoVA people missing all the Asian restaurants of NoVA....or does Tampa have enough to satisfy all your needs?

tampa has crappy asian food compared to nova, to be honest, but in the grand scheme of things it's a small price to pay. i recently went back home for a wedding and am so very thankful i left. i'll also be back up in alexandria over new years for yet another wedding. not looking forward to a) the holiday travel, b) the cold, c) being reminded yet again of why i left dc.
