Unfortunately I believe they own this one (US Open) for awhile. I miss Johnny Miller.

As for Chambers Bay - normally I enjoy the British Open courses, but this one looks very unattractive - USGA screwed up Pinehurst #2 last year, IMO. Time to return to normal parkland type courses and lose this "dried up" look. Throw some water and green up these courses. Screw the ecologists.

Are you sure it's not just the golf that is painful to watch.

Would J. Buck be involved?

I'm having a ball watching this. Granted, I've ridden the train that goes past the course many times and it's a spectacular setting. Beyond that, the guys that are creative and haven't already decided they hate the track (and thus have a head game going on before they really give it a go) are playing some fun, if not occasionally brilliant golf.

As far as the coverage goes, while I'm no J. Buck fan it's refreshing not to listen to the holier-than-thou cool detachment of Nantz. Production values have been good and I dare say not nearly as stuffy as a CBS or NBC presentation. I'm also enjoying all the whining coming out of all things ESPN. To listen to them you'd think they were playing at a Myrtle Beach putt-putt course (sorry World-Wide Leader, just because you got outbid there's no need to be bitter). I'm curious to learn what kind of ratings this thing is pulling.

In any event, I can relate to this much more than the immaculate, groomed with tweezers courses usually seen in tournament play.

YMMV

I'm finding this US Open to be one of the most compelling in quite a while, great story lines all around and a 4-way tie heading into Sunday. Thought Fox's use of close-ups especially around the greens a big plus. Less yacking and more golf being shown. The use of the mic in the bottom of the cup in picking up the green conversations between player and caddie.

Now that goofy golf course on the other hand...

Third round became interesting just because what Jason Day was able to accomplish.....finally the story was the golfer and not the golf course.....hope he can play as well for the final round.....just a side note for me is that I learned the game of golf nearby this course probably 10 miles south at Fort Lewis in 1985-86 while in the Army. Became addicted to the game back then.......

Greg Norman had greatly added to the broadcast. When he speaks we listen.
When J.B. speak we think we are watching baseball or football.

I think they have too many people in the booths - big lineup of folks (Norman, Buck, Flesch, Pavin, Delsing, etc etc etc).....then the SI Tim Rosaforte wannbee, rules guy David Fay, etc etc.....they're practically trying to replicate what many of the other networks have done (why reinvent the wheel philosophy?).......I've liked Corey Pavin and occasional views by Brad Faxon......you can take the rest of 'em - especially Weiskopf. Add Curt Menefee to that. I do like the Irish guy Shane O’Donoghue - don't think Holly Sonders is doing a great job and can't see her doing any serious interviews of players after tough rounds where things get emotional for the players......

as for the golf: tight final stretch....good to see
