Happy for Reed. Really seems to be the villain in the sport. Definitely not a popular champion. He really earned his Green Jacket - had every opportunity to collapse throughout the entire round and never had an easy time from the first hole though 18th.
This is the first golf tournament I have ever watched start to finish and really paid attention. Even when Tiger was tearing up the circuit, I only paid a little attention on Sunday and more often than not, just watched the highlights. I became interested to have something to talk about with my 90 year old dad.
Well, what an emotional 4 days! I woke up this morning and turned on the Golf channel first thing. I enjoyed the commentary (education) and was routing for Rory the same way I route for the Patriots or my favorite horse at the Kentucky Derby. At once, I was crushed when he missed the putt on the 2nd and was so disheartened the entire rest of the day. I had googled him, spent hours reading about him and was going to be his Number One Fan cheering for him in Florida!
How could what happened HAPPEN? I don't play golf, never have except when I would visit my dad in California and he would take me to his club and we fooled around on the practice putting area.
But getting back to what happened today? It seems to me that Rory played better yesterday under foul weather conditions and here comes Sunday, what looked to me to be a picture perfect day for golfing.
So I end the day rather sad. I'm going to do some reading up on Jordan and Rickie. By the time Jordan was on the 15th, I was googling and reading and routing for him and so hoped he would win. Then Rickie looked like he might be able to win IF Patrick screwed up (which I secretly hoped for).
I'm happy that this is going to be my new "hobby." I will probably never play but I am looking forward to conversations with my dad who prior to the match today shared with me that has been playing golf for 84 years! For the last decade he has played twice a week at the local club in California where he lives. I am sad that he can no longer play as his balance isn't doing well, but for 90 years old, I'm pretty impressed that he has been able to play as long as he has and I pray that I get the opportunity to get out to California at least one more time so we can go putting.
If there are any books or reading materials or anything you all could suggest I read to have topics or subjects to talk to him about or books he might like, please share.
Thanks all!

At least he has a girlfriend now! Remember that awkward iconic Ryder Cup picture from October 2016:
Baby steps, significant other first and soon a major winner right around the corner!
I do remember this, it was hilarious. BTW when you go to a tour event, Rickie is one of the nicest guys around even when he is playing terrible he made a lot of time signing for little kids. Good guy.
Ho-Hum tourneys for the next month or so until MAY 10 - 13, The Players Championship - I'll be visiting there for a practice round, have been going for a lot of years now.....Jack's tourney then US Open second week of June is the big one - kind of looking forward to the majors....

Hey, next year the PGA Championship moves to May from August, then you'll have one major a month from April though July!
He did. Shot a 73 on Friday and couldn't make up two strokes on Justin Thomas.
Before that he finished no better than T12 in a major.
It will be interesting to see what, if anything, Reed does next, over the next few years.
There are definitely those former Masters champs that win it and you never really hear anything much else from them: Charl Schwartzel, Trevor Immelman, Mike Weir, Danny Willett, etc. OK. maybe it's just the non-US Masters winners that seem to disappear!
Larry Mize, the only Augusta native to win the Masters, made a great chip while Greg Norman missed a makeable putt in a playoff in 1987. Only won two non-major Tour events after that.
It's almost is if Larry and the players I mentioned basically "caught lightning in a bottle" when they won their Masters. Time will tell what will become of Reed.
