Personally I don't give a damn about Phelps or any male swimmers or divers. It's all effeminate to me.

would this include rhythmic gymnastics for men as well? I have been in training for the past few months in the hope of having them include this for Rio for '16.....it may be my last shot at glory!

Greatest Olympic swimmer of all time, yes. Greatest Olympic athlete, no. That is purely subjective. Is Phelps' accomplishment of so many medals (all for swimming fast) greater than the person who won one gold medal in the decathlon (ten separate events)? Even the women's heptathlon deserves great respect even though they only receive one medal for all the events they compete. Some athletes compete in a sport that limits their medal count because of weight class like boxing, judo, taekwondo. Gymnastics offers multiple medal competition but the rigors of the sport makes it hard to compete and win in two separate Olympics. They have one shot at glory and then it's over for the Olympics. Another thing to consider is how would past Olympic great swimmers have performed if they had access to all the modern technology from youth to adult that Phelps had? All the special diet, supplements, training infinite pools, modern sports medicine, high tech swimsuits, and swimming goggles which weren't used in many past Olympics including those by Mark Spitz. No, I think he's the greatest Olympic swimmer and that's it. Nothing more.

really? I wonder how many medals Mark Spitz could have won if he, as a Jewish American, hadn't had to compete in the shadow of the 1972 Munich terrorist attack of Israeli athletes. Extra security and attention was focused on his because he is Jewish and the attackers were muslim terrorist.
