Hartford Steakhouse in Hartford is a great place to have a steak. Although the menu is limited, the steaks are affordable and good. Also, it has a relaxed atmosphere.
Puerto Vallarta is a well-liked Mexican restaurant. Inca (near the Western Mall) and Los Grasioles (on Minnesota Ave.) are other good choices.
For breakfast, either Marlin's (by the Tea exit or the north Cliff Ave. location) or Bob's (on west 12th St. are my favorites. Both are affordable and local. Marlin's is generous with their portions and normally do a decent job with their food and Bob's has good food.

No dannybanany, it's next to Great Clips across from Kmart. Not down by Great Wall. I think the one you're talking about is down by Dominos??? I'll have to drive by there to be sure.

Oh yes, I remembered it vaguely but the light bulb did not come on when I asked the question.
I shy away from the Chinese buffets due to me not being comfortable about food safety (and would rather go to a sit-down Chinese restaurant) and to limit the temptation to eat too much. I have been to a couple Chinese buffets (one in Vermillion and one or two in Sioux Falls) and was not impressed with them. When I lived in Pierre, the Chinese buffet there got in trouble when it had health inspections.
When I was a wee young kid, my parents and I ate a bowling alley and they got food poisoning and I was OK. Also my mom had a spider in her fries at McDonalds back in the early 1980s and had no desire to eat at McDonalds for awhile.
It is important for a restaurant to be clean and have a reputation for being clean and having decent food. It has a reptutation for being dirty, it is a darned good way of scaring away customers, especially me. I do not like eating in dirty eating establishments: gross. A bad smoke smell turns me off also.
I ate at Bob's on the westside on Marion Road and was impressed with the service, food, and cleanliness of the place. I plan to stop there again in the future. Not as smoky as the 12th St. location.
