Nothing more from OP since Dec 2013 - hope things turned out okay.
For anyone else's benefit - if you are heading towards homelessness you really need to get on the stick Before it happens.
I did an experiment back in 2005 and it was much tougher climbing out of homelessness than I had envisioned, plus it is dangerous.

Once you are in The Grinder it's likely you will only get piecemeal help that strings you along but nothing substantial to actually get on your feet again.
You can be so busy with day-to-day survival, choosing between getting in line at a soup kitchen or skipping a meal to make a Social Services appointment that may get you closer to your goal of independent living again.
So Before you end up on the street take full advantage of all social and veteran's assistance programs available and try to envision what is the least you can live on and gradually build your life back.
Family and friends may help some (I didn't really utilize them to have a more legitimate experience) but their patience will run out so you have to very actively plan and sacrifice.
Good luck!
