I think Penny's was there into the mid 90's.

Nope, Windcrest bought the whole facility and basically turned it over to Rackspace. The Wards building is going to be the data center, and the Mervyn's is the first part of the office space. The food court is going to be rehabbed into a food court.

I'm glad that at least the structure will survive.

We went to Northwest Center often. They had a Piggley Wiggley and a HEB. They also had a Whites and a Western Auto. That's the funny thing about it --they had two grocery stores and two stores that sold pretty much the same stuff. Whites and Western Auto were almost identicle in what they sold. The center part was a playground for kids to play in while the parents shopped. I remember Northstar Mall opening before Wonderland but maybe not. Some body might have already cleared this up earlier in this thread. We went to all three places all the time. Handy Andy was kinda pricey and was in Wonderland so we usually went to Piggley Wiggley because HEB didn't sell Beer or Wine back then. Handy Andy was the fanciest grocery store. Handy Andy used to decorate for the rodeo and it was always fun to see all the jokes they set up. Silly cowboy hick kinda stuff. Does anybody remember that? They had boxes that had signs on them. I remember one was labeled " Cowboy Meat Tenderizer". When you looked in the box,it was a pair of FALSE TEETH !! HA HA HA!!

I should have said any former southsiders on here! Way back in this forum , spmeone asked about the old Spotted Horse Restaurant. Said thei Mother or grandmother had worked there.
I knew it as the Spotted Horse Saloon , It was in the approximate location of Hungry Farmer Restaurant at the cormer of SE Military Dr. & I-35.
