The JCPenny at Terrell had clothes, sheets, towels, etc. Wikipedia says Penny's didn't have a full blown dept store anywhere until 1963. I think the Terrell was an average store and then a bigger store was opened at Windsor and then Terrell was fazed out.

In 1982 it was a full store with the exception of furniture and sporting goods. I know they had a full line of clothing for men, women, children and infants. I know that they had an in-store tailor for their mens dept. Their selection was slightly more limited than the South Park Mall location, but still a full line store. They may have had a limited furniture selection, but I do not recall seeing any. Their kitchen appliances and television department was small with limited selection.

I now remember a Woolworth's or Kresge's in the center of the walkway at Terrel Plaza. I say a Kresge's cause they had a really cool pet dept (Wikipedia says the K in Kmart stands for Kresge's, didn't know that), and then farther down a Ward's Automotive, which I think had nothing to do with Montgomery (RSVP) Wards. There was a Texas Employement Center there at one time in early 80's and a Lady Gym in the 60's (one of a chain of women's gyms, not Trim and Swim, but another.) And an HEB at the far northeast end. Funny cause HEB used to be a lower class supermarket chain with Waitz Model Market, Piggly Wiggly and Handy Andy being more sophisticated.

Too funny. I pactically grew up at that Albert Pick. My best buddie's dad was the GM there so we were all over that place, and the Denny's that was next door. I only went to the Lone Star Ice House on my way to Little League baseball games at what is now the Concord Athletic Club.
I graduated from Lee in 76. You?

Question for the experts of the board, back in the late 70's and 80's what was located on Jones Maltsburger where Wal-mart is today? What about the whole block up to 410?

There was a Denny's on the corner. I know that is not where WalMart is.

The land that the Walmart on Jones-Maltberger was on was only a few houses set on acre or half acre lots (some with horses and chickens). There were no businesses from the apts down to 410 except for an ice house, an Arthur Murray dance studio and a bar with a clever name. Can't quite remember the name.

Yup...virtually grew up at that "mall" strip...Penney's was almost Solo-Serve-ish (?!?!), with clothes, towels, notions...but it was a place for Mom to hang while I hung at Dick's Hobby Shop and then we would eat at...was it Wyatt's? NOT Luby's, not Picadilly's...think there was a TSO, know there was a Thom McCann's, a Toy Box, and a Handy Andy. For poor white trash, driving by the Sheraton and even Shakey's Pizza...I thought it was a really cool part of SA to be!
