I have a very wealthy relative whose family owns a chain of dept stores and shopping malls. Do you think he can close down all his businesses on Saturday for the Sabbath? What would his tenant-shops say when they have to close shop on the malls' busiest day of the week? He knew he is violating the 4th Commandment... but what can he do?

If I remember correctly, Semitic languages rely heavily on hyperbole, so that famous Bible verse could be an exaggeration when translated literally into English. However, it is true that being wealthy is often an obstacle to entering heaven. Although there are many righteous wealthy people out there, there are also many who trust in their own strength and not that of God. Also, many in wealthy developed countries have completely abandoned faith in God and instead have faith in the welfare state.

No, its called being prosperous.

>>Jesus said it would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man to gain entrance to heaven.<<

RESPONSE:

Yes. Wealth may be your obstacle to being saved. But don't dispare!

I'll be glad to take all of your wealth so that you can be poor and stand a better chance of getting into heaven.

Aren't I a wonderful person to do that! (I've already applied for sainthood)>
