Most wealth is accumulated on the back of other people IMO to begin with but let's say you inherited it and did not share it with the poor and did not use it to end poverty and other social issues I would say yes, big sin.
Can you imagine Jesus with a billion dollars in offshore accounts , a lot bling, designer clothes, mansions, a private jet/yacht and a gold plated toilet seat whilst others starved in the world and died of hunger. Not likely. Not the Jesus I was taught about anyway.
Money is not the root of all evil but greed and accumulation of wealth is. Money can solve a lot of social ills and thus if you have a lot of it it would make sense as someone who loves his creator's creations that that money is put to good use and not wasted.
I was always told that faith and following one's faith is to let go of the material things in life, stop being shallow and aim for spiritual not financial fulfillment. How is that possible if one is so attached and so obsessed with money and riches that one does not share ?
what precisely DOES happen when one DOES stop being shallow?
should i be even more explicit?
I don't know having never gotten there myself ! You become deeper a person I guess...
I was always told leaving worldy things behind you is the only to truly achieve perfect spiritual enlightenment and to let go of all the mental "baggage" the world gives us.
I guess if you are encumbered with riches and greedy for more then you can't really devote your entire soul and your entire being to godly devotion.
Riches to slow us down and do tie us down , one can never be truly free religiously speaking until one is free of the material.
Human nature is greed and we are trying to overcome human nature, transcend it and elevate ourselves into better beings. You never get to be fully introspective and self-knowing if you have a desire for "stuff". That is the way I understand faith anyway.
But then again I'm an atheist and only saying what I have read and been told by many different religious people.
