I find the blanket comments about porn (the actors are all unattractive, plots are silly, the industry is awful) to be rather amusing and telling.
The fact is that the internet has revolutionized porn and the old cliches just don't apply much anymore. The actors aren't all anything--they're pros and amateurs -- fat, skinny, ugly, and attractive (men AND women, BTW). Most stuff made now has zero or near zero plot--its just raw sex (aka "gonzo"). And the "industry" consists of everything from big porn shops in So.Cal to surprisingly-reputable outfits that belong to ASACP and FOSI to organized crime mobs in Russia to housewives in Sandusky with a video camera. In fact, the indutry is under increasing economic pressure because so many amateurs are making their own homemade porn and uploading it online where people can watch it all free.
I'm not saying this to justify porn viewing, or to condemn those who do so (frankly, like many arguments, I think both sides have some valid points). What I am pointing out, however, is that a lot of folks have some skewed and woefully out of date views about things. News flash: it isn't 1974 anymore.
Porn is awesome. You all know that approximately 70% of ALL the material on the internet is porn? Is has become an absolutely enormous industry in America. It's about time we just accept it.
People watch lots of porn. There is nothing wrong with that. It's funny watching some of you all say stuff like "Well I don't really watch it, but....."
When you watch porn you will never catch an STD or have a pregnancy. Porn is a great release and I see it as a good thing in society. It's better than people having wild orgies right?

My S.O. loves the fact that I'm 100% comfortable watching it with him, and I've watched it alone before too. Sometimes you want a little push and that helps when you're in the mood. I prefer soft porn as opposed to hard core nasty stuff, sometimes just the hint of sex in a movie is all it takes.
I don't have to hide, and neither does DH. I knew he had nudy magazines when we got together, and I would never try to change his habits. That is something he enjoys, so I won't take that from him. Instead, I joined with him to find out what he likes, and since I've been pro-porn, our sex life has only increased in spicyness.
My mom used to burn my dad's playboys in the fireplace in front of all 6 of us kids, saying that it was Satan's magazine and it was disgusting. The reason women had to fight as hard as they do in life to be recognized as equals to men instead of the second class citizens we used to be, all came from behaviors like this. What mom did not see, was how dad restocked his mags outside my bedroom closet in a trunk, and how resentful he was of his unapproving wife.
Well, she's entitled to her opinion, but here's how I see it: Women who are into taking off their clothes for the camera and money, is something I can't stop, or change their minds, or talk them out of. It's out there, I can't change it, so I just go with the flow. It does not degrade me, embarrass me, or hurt my feelings because I am secure in my sexuality, I am not threatened by naked beautiful women, and honestly it is fun to see stuff that I never thought of doing. My husband is very respectful, he doesn't like the really smutty stuff either, and we tend to keep it on the safe side. When I'm ready to shut it off and get down to business, he already has his finger on the remote placed above the power button, with a huge wickedly evil grin in his eyes....mwaahahah.
Wow, I am behind the times! Turkey porn and ferro-masochistic porn? I just wonder when robot porn is going to be a reality, especially with recent developments by engineers in Japan recently.
More seriously, though, let's face it, pro porn is largely one big crass snooze. All the people in it and the situations are so cartoonish as to be more exasperating than stimulating. That's why I watch xtube, but even that is pretty hit and miss.
As for porn being bad for relationships, that's false. The problem a lot of people have with porn is actually comprised of three things, generally: one, women who are jealous of competing with porn starlets or playboy models for attention; two, religious hustlers on the make; three, the mentally wacked who have bad sexual hangups and they project that on to porn and those who consume it.
It's fine if one doesn't find porn to their artistic/aesthetic taste. Most porn is pretty ugly stuff. And it is also fine if it doesn't ring your chimes sexually. We're all different. But to call it a societal problem (and usually people cite what are merely anecdotal instances or just pure fiction to further their pro-censorship agenda) is to throw the baby out with the bathwater. It also makes porn forbidden fruit and we all know how much America loves to consume that.
As for the ludicrous idea that a daughter would tell her mom that she wants to be a porn actress one day, the answer to that is, "honey, you can make a lot more money being a lawyer or a doctor and people will actually praise you if you do the latter. Or if you just want to lay on your back all day and shop your butt off, marry Warren Buffet."
