I thought the "strong silent type" was a 1940's meme. I don't know any women who'd have any interest at all in that type these days.

It's part personal, part cultural.

Here in Italy the guys who have the most success are by far popular and witty guys. A strong silent type guy here, for the most part, will be treated like a loser who doesn't know what to say in any given context.

That said, people are meant to be different, and I've seen every kind of men meet a matching woman as long as they stayed true to themselves.

Interesting discussion. I could be considered the strong silent type EXCEPT I lack confidence. I'm pretty quiet and women have complained I'm a terrible communicator. I'm aware of it and am trying to improve. I want to be a good partner if I ever find a good woman again. I'll never be a charismatic sweet talker, but hopefully being more secure in my own skin will eventually attract someone. Of course, I have to relocate for that to happen.
