I apologize for my pump suggestion. Hey, I'm a man! What am I supposed to know? But I will leave with a comment I gave on one other thread about breastfeeding in public. That's what the Good Lord put those things on your chest for, so why worry about it.
I know a nursing mom who uses a shawl to cover herself and baby while they are nursing in public. You can't even see the baby (or bare skin).
May not be able to see the baby or boob but many times you can hear the baby smacking! It is disruptive to others wanting to hear the sermon. I like the idea of a special place for nursing mothers at church.
As for me I have a box of graham crackers and a chair. Am I next?
To those of you wanting details about our doctrinal beliefs, I'm afraid I can't yet provide an answer you would likely find to be acceptable. We are new followers of Christ and still learning our way -- which is why we are seeking a church where I can still have access to God's word while I am breastfeeding our new child.
The church we currently attend happens to be of Southern Baptist denomination, but we are open to visiting other churches which would be accepting of us.
Also, I am pretty sure the pastor indicated that I should specifically utilize the chair behind the curtain in the back of the nursery, but I will be certain to specifically ask this Sunday if I can modestly breastfeed (with a cover-up) in the sanctuary since there is no mother's room with sermon audio, and let you all know his response ...
Thank you all for your support and words of encouragement, and I apologize for disappointing those looking for that other kind of elusive "pro-boob" church you must have been thinking of ...
If you are open to travelling a little further, there is a fairly liberal baptist church in Raleigh: Pullen Memorial Baptist church. I don't know specifically about their views on boobs, but they are well known to be liberal on various controversial social issues. I know a lot fo people who go there and love it, but they are defintiley on the more liberal side of the fence. I can't imagine a boob being used for it's intended purpose would offend them. (They also have a female pastor).
I have to add that once that baby is here you may find that the last thing you want to do on Sundays is get dressed and leave the house. Your nights won't be your own for many months and you will feel (and maybe look) like the walking dead for quite a while. Good luck.

Don't ask, just do! No one will have a problem with it. In the very rare event that someone says something negative to you, that is their problem, not yours or anyone else's. No one sticks the nursing mom behind the curtain!
