With the exceptionally above normal temps we have been having an long range looks like will continue, I am concerned for some of the older/poorer people living near me that may not have air conditioning. I was thinking about buying a few window air condtioners and stopping at houses where their windows are open on hot days and then asking them if they want a free air conditioner to help.

My questions are:
  1. Do you think people here will be receptive to someone approaching them with such a proposition?
  2. Do you think they would use it with the cost of electricity for them or would they just end up selling it?
I really want to make sure they are doing well in the heat.

Why don't you go ask them first? If they say yes, then go buy it and install it for them. Then you avoid showing up with the AC and them being embarrassed, etc and getting upset with you. I would also take them some info as to how much it would cost them each month. Very kind of you! An FYI, at the end of the summer one year (closer to mid August) all of Target's AC's were half off. If it goes well, you could buy some half off for some folks next year.
