I can assure them that more of Florida's land is Southern than not. While everything from Palm Beach County southward and westward is decidedly not Southern, most everything north of Orlando is hicksville USA. Remember, the panhandle (home of the redneck riviera) boarders southern Georgia and Alabama and it goes for hundreds of miles.
The area between Orlando and Palm Beach County is the transition area between North and South. The Greater Tampa Bay area is a mixed bag as well. Sarasota and to the south is more like the rest of South Florida while the Northern sections of the area can feel pretty Southern.

So is it hickness that determines if a place is Southern or not?
