My boy (almost 5) wanted to go fishing Friday afternoon. First time he's ever asked me to take him. OK!!! Well he caught a Jack Crevalle right away and he was HOOKED! Stayed out 4.5 hrs, fishing constantly! What 5yr old does that!?!?!? Then the next day, "dad can we go fishing again?" Awe, heart melting at this point! Load the boat, lower the lift, grab bait around the corner, and 10 mins later we are catching more fins in Lemon Bay. This time he got his first Red (small, but that's ok!) and mangrove snapper. Dad reeled in a nice 6lb black drum, which paired well with two snapper Sunday night for dinner (after a 3rd straight day of fishing-his request again) :-) Ahhh Monday, back to work & school....
That's awesome - there's nothing better than taking your kid (or grandkid, or somebody else's kid) fishing.

Greatest story on the thread in a long time. Awesome, HH.
5 years ago, my grand-twins were 9 and I took a photo of them driving my 26' WAC as I shot from the bow pulpit.
The photo made it into the Waterline piece of the Sun Newspapers (not the cover but still big for them).
They took 10 copies home to AZ to show their classmates and teachers.

Teaching the next generation (or the one after that) is highly rewarding. Our tradition for catch and release is for the boys to tell the fish, "Catch ya later!" as we release them.

Very nice tides, although windy conditions, on the harbor today for anyone who can get out (not me).
It will be windy to get to the flats and creeks but if you don't mind a choppy crossing, it would be cool and calmer among the mangroves. Peak bite conditions today will be between 2PM and 4:30 on a rising tide.
These early gusts should slow down for your ride home.

I fish pretty much, anywhere and anytime. I grew up fishing on the Genesee River, the great lakes, and the finger lakes, as well as some farmland flats. So anything that swims in fresh water - I've caught. And, I have fished all over the Chesapeake Bay.

Now I fish Port Charlotte Harbor and "The Pass" almost exclusively since my boat is docked out back, and I don't trailer it. The fishing here is different, and so you have to adjust your techniques a tad, and target the species your after a bit. But the most important thing to know is - EVERYTHING EATS SHRIMP. Once you learn that, and put your hook in the water, you'll be successful.

Are you a good story teller? Because, when you fish down here, you will see and experience things that will make you a great one. It is just awesome down here.

Messing About,
Are you down here now? DM me and let me know your whereabouts, and maybe we can go out sometime.

I have a couple people that haveta go out with me as well. BeachbumWannabe and I have missed a couple times. I gotta call him again, last time he was WORKING! What a horrible, pitiful, excuse for not going fishing when someone calls! LOL That was a first! See, you'll become a good story teller if you fish with me, and OH!!! You better out-fish me, or you'll never hear the end of that either.

Then after we are done fishing, we go to the bar, and a whole new competition begins! LOL

Hey Buddy. My name is Bob. My wife and I live in North East, MD> Just bought a condo in PC. Licensed Captain, although that doesn't meen that I am a pro fisherman. Fished the Chessy Bay and Susky Flats since I was a kid, Worked for Amtrak for 37 years, 2.5 left and then we are coming down. Got a little 25 sport fish and love to drink Beer. I hope to give you a run for your money. On the water or the bar stool. LOL. Take care and hope to meet you one of these days!!

Welcome to the board, Captain, and welcome to our little corner of paradise. Let us know when you come down. We need to plan get together. We've been trying a fish-together and it's been challenging getting everyone's schedules coordinated. Let us know when you plan on visiting next.

I saw the ultra low winter tides have started. Some will have to plan their outing around when they can get off the lift or will have to get off the night before. It's all part of living the canal life.
