Went out yesterday and battled the wind.Tried all over the 75 bridge just little mangrove snappers and flounders. Then moved up river and started fishing the mangroves. The redfish were hitting a 1/4 ounce gold spoon thrown up to the mangroves with a stop and go retreive.

My visiting sis, her bf and I hit the head boat out of Placida on Fishery Rd. on Wednesday and she went today with just her bf. Non-stop grunts, snapper, triggers and others but the grouper were mostly small. We sent the small grunts back down as bait...and they were getting nailed by huge fish (grouper?) but most were hard to hook with that small hook on the rental rods. BYO rod or at least bigger hooks and it's a good way to waste a day with visitors... especially when boatless like me right now.

Will be going out tomorrow and it looks like I have a choice. There won't be much of a wind so I might head out of boca grande pass and start the day running the crab traps for triple tail then see if the kings are biting. There have been quite a few taken lately within a mile or two of the beach. The other option is to stay in the harbor and fish the deeper holes up by the mangroves of the east keys. The tide will be a real low tide so the fish (hopefully reds) will be stacked up. Anyone else been out lately?

My neighbor went out with a guide yesterday. Got skunked all around Pirate Harbor. Went north around Alligator Creek and got into mangrove snapper & sheepshead. That was it.

There have been tons of big snook in the underwater lights lately, definitely bigger and fatter than a year ago. Last night there were so many it looked like you could walk across them. Looks like the extended closure is doing them good.

I've had a few nice ones on my light too. Caught a guy at 11pm fishing mine from a boat two nights ago. After our "exchange", I don't think he'll be back.

Capt Mike Myers gave a fishing report at PGICA last night. Said triple tail on the trap lines are great, trolling the same area for gags is great (if you don't mind putting them back), and keep a rod rigged for cobia. I may go tomorrow or Friday...or Saturday...or all three.
