Looked at the weather forecast for Buffalo, and I had to hit Fishin' Frank's for a fix before taking off. Has anybody ever gotten out of there without spending a hundred bucks?

LOL - it took me a while. If I want large shrimp or some big frozen bait fish I go there. I would always buy things (I want, not necessarily need) there. For a smaller store they specialize in fishing, and they have just about everything you'd WANT down here. The place has fishing guides that work there during the off season and when they aren't on the water - they are happy to answer questions for you and give you recommendations. Walmart doesn't come close to the selection, quality, or deals, let alone the real hands on knowledge these guys have. I like to recommend local establishments, and want them to do well - but Fishing Franks is Glorious! Bass Pro Shop has the selection, quality, and deals (but not the bait, and they aren't local). They bring in pro's to fish in their tanks, and they talk to educate the customers - but Frank's style and demonstrations set him above them too.

I think he should start a Fixin' Franks and give Home Depot and Lowes a run for their money!

Yeah, agree 100%. I wouldn't buy a sinker at WalMart. Frank has personally fitted rods for me, taken apart reels I was considering to compare the guts, etc, etc. The guides who work there are great, with loads of info on rigs, techniques, etc, etc.

The first time I was in Fishin Franks, he spent over an hour teaching me how to fish, where to fish, and what to fish with. I walked out spending less than $70.00 dollars. He told me that he sold me everything I need to fish Charlotte harbor. I asked him repeatedly if need anything else, No was his answer.

Needless to say he has a lifetime customer, I really wouldn't care if he charged me 3 times more than bass pro shop or walmart, I would still buy from him. Besides I would rather see my money spent with a local member of the community, than a large corporation.

I shared this thread with Frank, via his facebook page. His store/parking lot is where I learned how to throw a castnet. He is absolutely a local gem, albeit a little rough on the edges at times but if you really want to see his true heartfelt side, bring a kid or grandkid in there.
