How much more was spent in 2009 than 2008? Was the amount recovered proportional? Also wasn't it the same bureaucrats doing the recovering? Not Obama's but the same folks who have been there for the previous 8 years?
The Trustee reports stress "actuarial" numbers. There is no actual "cash balance" in the reports. Interesting read on how they spin it.
You see starting "asset value" and ending "asset value".
From the quick read I did, sounds like there is no cash in there but debt in the form of Treasuries so the credit would be supposed interest from the Treasuries. I could be wrong, but that's how I read it.

Nothing new has been going on since Medicare started. Not the right track or wrong track but simply the way things have always been done certainly didn't start with Obama. Obama promised us he would save enought o pay for Obamacare. Ooops!

If you read the reports they have been doing that every year.
This is not something new...read the older reports and each one has what amount has been recovered from fraud.
I didn't see where that $2.5 billion comes into play though in those reports.
They may have made that announcement based on cumulative numbers.
That's a big jump from the 2008 or 2007 numbers..a tad too big.

Turning Up the HEAT on Health Care Fraud
President Obama is committed to fighting health care fraud and in just over a year in office, his Administration has taken unprecedented and decisive action to stop fraud and crack down on criminals.
In May, Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Attorney General Eric Holder pledged to fight waste, fraud and abuse in Medicare and announced the creation of the Health Care Fraud Prevention and Enforcement Action Team (HEAT). With the creation of HEAT, fighting Medicare fraud has become a Cabinet-level priority for both DOJ and HHS.

The Justice Department's Civil Division and U.S. Attorneys' Offices have recovered approximately $2.2 billion in civil recoveries since January 2009 in cases involving fraud against federal health care programs
So that means that 2.5 billion will be in the 2011 report ?
Wouldn't that be the 2010 report?
