Well, here's a new one on me. Apparently, the mob and drug dealers are finding it more profitable, and are willing to commit violence, to rip off Medicare. Plus, the prison term is shorter making it a better risk.

Are Congress and The President still saying money to pay for Obamacare (whatever form it turns out to be) is going to come from savings achieved by curbing fraud and abuse in Medicare? How has controlling the "war on drugs" worked out for Congress and the Office of the President over the decades and these are the same people shifting to a different crime? Why don't they take a shot at curbing Medicare fraud now? The President doesn't need some bill signed by him to get an agency to do this. I'm going to take a stab at the answer. Based on other government programs to curb fraud and abuse (example: Earned Income Tax Credit) he knows they are largely unsuccessful but that doesn't bode well if you are trying to push through healthcare reform and claim savings. I bet the government will spend more to control fraud and abuse (appropriations bills not healthcare) than they recoup and how much do you want to bet it won't be in any appropriations bill this year?
