To me, it's clear that the world doesn't care whether or not the U.S. is more "socialist" or not. The main factor is that they saw Bush as a bully who wasn't interested in diplomacy and they see Obama as someone who is interested in getting along with the rest of the world. I think they also admire the U.S. for electing a person of color.
I don't see how having two wars is "getting along" with other countries but okay......
It seems like now private enterprises have overtaken our government and not the other way around.
Of course that's how many of the people on the hill want it. They both talk a good game of being "for the people" but when any type of common sense measure comes through Congress, it doesn't have a chance. Republicans try to spook people with "big government" scare tactics only to reward their buddies with government contracts and such that end up costing the taxpayers money.
Democrats try to say they're on the side of the middle class but they sell us out just like the Republicans.
I agree with you here. Both parties will sell us out for a buck. True reform would eliminate corporate "donations" to politicians and get them out of big business pockets so that they can work for the people.

I also agree with you. I felt pride on election day for the same reason. Electing a person of color was a huge statement in the U.S. I just wish I agreed more with his politics. Bush and the republicans did us no favors either in my opinion.

For those who disagree about Obama: If it wasn't his election that put the U.S. back on top of the list of most admired countries, then what do you think is responsible for it? What else could it be?
I think it could be his failure to deal with terrorism in a manner that lets the world know that we won't be beaten down by others who are willing to give in to Islam, like northern Europe. Hell yes, they like him because he doesn't know that they are laughing at him and how easy he is.
Could you name a few things that he has done that caused others to like us better? Just for the hell of it.

That's some convoluted thinking there.

I already have, but again:
1. They see someone who is interested in getting along with the rest of the world; they saw Bush as a bully.
2. They admire the U.S. for electing a person of color.
That's enough, really. I don't think we need to spend a lot of time defending him against people who obviously have an irrational hatred for him.
Any tangible or measurable accomplishment you can point out?
You listed like the same sort of nonsense that the day dreamers justified their votes with.
Are you saying the whole world is that shallow?
I know it's hard for some to imagine - especially those who have an irrational hatred for Obama - but it doesn't take a lot for the U.S. to gain respect from other countries. If we show some respect for them, they'll show respect for us. This is something that George W. Bush never accepted.
