but you shall open your hand to him and lend him sufficient for his need, whatever it may be

^ I'd guess basic health care would be a 'need'
For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, 'You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.'

^ So much for the "let them get an education and get out of poverty" argument. God says there will ALWAYS be poor people and that His people (whether Jews or Christians) must provide for them

Another propaganda based attempt to twist words and meanings in hopes to bully people into support.

Why not just throw a tantrum if you don't get your way? That way it will properly fit the level of discourse such advocates have displayed.

Open wide your hand is offering help, not subsidizing idleness, sloth, reckless and destructive behavior, because that will only encourage more of the same.

Timothy 5:8 "But if any man does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. "

We punish dead beat dad's, we do not subsidize them, so they can go on being dead beats. When people come upon hard times Americans are always the first to open wide their hand an offer help.

It's not like the tax rate is going to rise dramatically if we have single-payer system. I'd imagine wages would go up because employers would no longer be responsible for health care and most people wouldn't mind paying slightly more in taxes if they're going to get an equitable health care system and if they're going to see their wages rise.
Should really have a link providing these polls. Don't you think?

Here is a informative link about the position of the religious right concerning healthcare reform.

Religious Right: Health Care Reform is Against God’s Plan

Religious Right: Health Care Reform is Against God’s Plan

Quote:
Christian groups are being urged to swamp town hall meetings. Some are being asked to attend and read the riot act to supporters of health care reform. It is, after all, against God’s plan for health reform, some religious right leaders now say.
Quote:
God has created government to do certain things. When we reject His design for government, in a sense, we’re rejecting Him.”Pritchard goes on to explain that Obama expects people to trust government, not God and socialist models are against the laws of God and involve rationing and waiting periods for care.
Wow! What a group of diluted, self-serving, bigots that use God to justify their selfishness!

Look it is very simple, there really is no consensus whatsoever that Christians should support socialized medicine , if a case could be made for it , from the scriptures, the so called "religious right", Conservative Christians would be supporting it. There just is no basis for it at all in the Bible. Obviously there are those who want nothing to do with and know nothing about the Bible trying to make case for it out of ignorance and Liberal church denominations who support and promote it just as they do homosexuality and abortion, but that has nothing to do with Christianity. Quite the contrary the Bible specifically commands us to be wise stewards of our money, One could hardly make the case that would include giving your money and shirking your personal responsibility to a corrupt, bloated, federal bureaucracy that is run by people like Pelosi and Reid so they can waste most of that money, all the while claiming to help the poor.

Read the bible story about the good Samaritan. Are you too walking on the other side of the road to avoid helping out the sick man?

I support the idea of UHC, based on my christian beliefs, but I'm not going to try and quote scripture to support it. It's a gray area in the faith. To their credit, many who oppose UHC do help the poor personally.

That said, Christians are silent on this issue, the way they usually are when it comes to social justice and human rights. We never talk about it, but focus on only two issues to the exclusion of the rest. And then we pat ourselves on our backs, thinking what good christians we are.

Please ask yourself three questions:
1. What's the difference between an 9 month old fetus and a 1 month old child?
2. Why do we demand that the government protect one but not the other?
3. How can we call ourselves consistent if we don't want to protect both?

I asked myself these questions, and that's why I fully support UHC as a christian. I cannot oppose it and face Jesus with a clean conscience. Simply being anti-abortion does not make you pro-life.
