The young man was given three choices: get turned over to the police, go one-on-one in a fight with a seasoned war veteran, or be duct-taped to a flagpole for six hours with a sign around his neck identifying his alleged crime: flag burning.
There's another thread about this going; most seem to be in favor of the punishment. I for one don't like the idea of doing this in front of little kids. I really don't like the idea at all, to tell you the truth; I think they should have let the police handle it.
Well, he consented to it, so, I guess, nothing is wrong with it. I couldn't imagine going through that in a small town where many people will recognize you.
I agree; I thought the flag burning was a political statement, but he was just
mad that he couldn't get more alcohol. That being said, I agree that the local police should have handled it.
