"Just when you think it's safe"

Reparations Disclaimer on Slavery Apology Stirs Backlash Among House Dems - Political News - FOXNews.com

This isn't even doing anything other than saying the resolution can't be used as legal grounds for it and we have congressmen crying about it.

I swear this brilliant idea just won't die. It's far WORSE than a bad cold.

Show me a person alive today who was a US slave, and I'll gladly give them everything I own.

No, you wouldn't, but you don't expect to have that particular bluff called, do you? Interesting insight though. Clearly, after so much time there aren't any actual living slaves anymore than there were actual living Apache, Seminole or countless other Native American tribesmen to benefit from Casino licensing or Tax exemption or whatever other reparations have been extended to the descendants of Native American tribespersons. The concept of slave reparations is no more or less ridiculous than the concept of Native American reparations. Gambling doesn't really interest me, however, any serious reparations package for African Americans must include Fried Chicken franchising or Watermelon cultivation and distribution subsidies to get my vote.

Native American Tribes were and are sovereign nations that made treaties with the government entitling them to things. The slaves were not.

Difference- the native americans owned the country. We took it from them.

As my ancestors fought in the American Revolution (one died) and we have had ancestors who fought in every US conflict, do we get reparations for freeing the slaves? Two died in the civil war.

Gimme, gimme, gimme. The US gave everyone something that no other country has- freedom and the ability to prosper and advance yourself. Stop whining and get to work. Handouts are for beggars. I would note that approving "reparations" would probably result in a second civil war.

Go ahead Dems....keep over-reaching your boundaries. 2010 and 2012 looks better for conservatives with each passing day!

It would appear that the Congressional Black Caucus is trying to ride the First Black President's coat-tail. I guess in their eyes, if there ever was a time for reparations to be seriously considered, it would be now. White people are still the majority - do Democrats really want to offend that group? I guess we'll find out.

This whole idea annoys me to no end. In the first place, slavery was common in the world at the time, and slavery still exists in the world today! The United States or the American Colonists did not invent slavery!

The reality is, and the truth that people must grasp and accept, is that the United States ended it!!!

We have nothing to apologize for. What is with these misguided politicians. They are only trying to score points. It's quite obvious that is all that matters to them.
