A year ago it was a must and a key issue for the Dem candidates.
There seems to be some "backing off" going on now so I thought maybe someone here can remind me why that was so important and how borrowing tens of millions of dollars and changing the geographic coordinates will solve it.
It needs to be closed because it is a horrible horrible place full of innocent next door neighbor type of people!

Because it's in Cuba, and we're not allied with Cuba.
The problem is Casper, even their own countries don't want them. That's what is at the heart of the current program to relocate the detainees - nobody wants them. Not the US, not the countries where they came from. That should speak volumes to the naysayers in this country that love to give these terrorists civil rights (but unfortunately it falls on deaf ears). These are not good people, and nobody is stepping up to claim them except the ACLU.
That may be true, but I seriously doubt many of them are going to be found innocent of the deeds they are being held for. Most would get long prison sentences or death. I did not say I would ask if the country they came from wanted them(those found not guilty) back I would deport them, we can inform the country of origin but not ask, their problem.

It because the destructive practice of partisan politics is all over now, 0bama won the election, and we really do NEED a prison exactly like Guantanamo, and those prisoners really are dangerous, and some of them cannot simply be set free, and military tribunals and commissions are needed too, go figure.
So what do we beat up on Bush with now?
0BAMA: ''Military commissions have a long tradition in the United States. They are appropriate for trying enemies who violate the laws of war, provided that they are properly structured and administered.''
If we close Gitmo, I don't want these terrorists setting foot on American soil! Send them back to their own country. Better yet, they should have just been shot on the battlefield or wherever else they were apprehended. Now we have a disposal problem on our hands.
I find it interesting that before the election, the dems talked constantly about closing Gitmo, now voted to withold funds to close it. Maybe I'm dense, but I don't understand the hypocricy.
Maybe the ACLU who likes these kind of people can take them into their own homes.

"their own country"
I've heard on the news that their own countries don't want them back.
