"The world's resources ... are meant to be shared equally and equitably."
"Free market forces alone cannot adequately address injustices and unfair labor practices, including wages which do not permit a quality of life expected in developed countries, and is tantamount to human rights abuse."
"Unfair, partisan, and overwhelmingly influenced political movements by corporations must be recognized and brought out to the light as what they are - sin."
"Demonization of the poor - in the form of turning a blind eye to the circumstance and situations of each and neglecting the social frameworks which place them there - is sinful."
"We must exercise a preferential option for the poor. Concrete actions are required - not just pious wishes."
"Individual acts of charity are not enough. Social, political, and economic policy must be addressed."
So ... what does this remind you of? Please, give me some guesses and then I'll tell you what my sources are. I'm actually quite interested in the opinions of so-called Christians who are also quite conservative in leaning.
My basic gist is that most religious leaders are the source of my quotes here that I've collected from various places. Basically, religious figures are pretty universally calling for health care reform and trade reform because it is not perfect and injustice and perpetual poverty or suffering result from it.
So there you have it - your own religious leaders are calling for "socialized medicine". What do you have to say to that?

Shouldn't we do our best to turn this into a socialist, chicken little thread????
Communism is the end-state of capitalism. Eventually the means of production will be concentrated into the hands of a few (technology will render human labor and creativity unnecessary) who will have to subsidize the many for their mutual survival. The cost of health care, for example, is eating more and more of the income of the population and will eventually surpass the incomes of nearly everyone.

Did you just intimate that there won't be any added taxes for this program? Surely the Dems won't allow that to be known before 2012 but it has already been called to our notice that all who pay those non-insurance fines are being taxed.
