At this time only a few Walmarts across America are test marketing auto sales with Chinese made trash cars. Just wait till all Walmarts have a Chinese made auto sales lot in their stores and watch people go goo goo gaa gaa over them.
Ohhhhhhh wooooooooooow $1995.00 for a brand new car !!!!
Sounds real good but like anything......ya get what ya pay for.
Go figure a still developing country with over a billion people had more auto sales than the US, with people scared of losing their jobs, no credit, in a recession, and 300 million people.

B-b-b-b-b-ut I thought the Chinese were oppressed sweatshop workers or dirt poor peasants???
This was bound to happen. The US market has been saturated and I don't see much growth until at least electric/hybrid car technology matures. The irony is that GM is struggling in the US and doing fairly well in China.
They said earlier this year they will own the world automotive market for this century, or at least that will be one of their goals. The US may stop shooting itself in the foot and become a competitor once more, or we may just go out and buy ourselves a bigger cannon like we usually do so we can shoot ourselves in the foot more effectively. The American Auto industry is so thoroughly in the pocket of big oil it's unlikely they will have even the domestic market in five years. They have had as much time to prepare for the obsolescence of petroleum as everyone else. Instead they have fought new technologies in every way they can. Our fuel economy standards are around half those of the Japanese. It's amazing how fast they're coming up with stuff now, but in 2000 Chevron persuaded Bush to pull all research funding from the technologies that were market ready and redirect the funds to hydrogen, the least market ready option. The American Taxpayer will pay for generations for the hand-in glove relationship between Big Government and Big Oil in this country.

I couldn't care less what the American Car companies do. They can go bankrupt and it would not affect me. Japanese car companies have factories in the US and will continue hiring American engineers and American workers.

Some of the chinese electric cars are already selling in Mexico around $6700. Looks like they will be coming to Costco too (Chinese Electric Cars Coming to Costco and Wal-Mart (http://digg.com/d1nc6C - broken link)).
