This is where I disagree with you. Russia would have no problem defeating the rainbow forces of NATO and the US. Lots of casualties on both sides but Russian weaponry is superior.

Russian "Z-bloggers" boast that the Russian army was given a vehicle from 1958:
"Gorkovsky is here. 28th Reserve Rifle Battalion of the 60th Red Banner Motor Rifle Brigade guarding the Kursk region. Big thanks to the volunteers for finding and sending us a 1958 GAZ-69 assault horse. We hope no museum was damaged) And to be honest, thank you. The old horse will not spoil the furrow! We have already given him a call sign - "GrandpaGazik"))))"
I could not read the full article because I don't have an account at The Economist, but it is sad that this war is destroying cities and killing innocent civilians who want nothing to do with the war.
The grandfather mentioned in the article says he built his brick home 45 years ago, of course he doesn't want to walk away and see it destroyed.
Zelensky was so wrong not negotiating from the beginning and allowing it to get this far. The U.S can be blamed as well.

I agree....there is absolutely no reason why Russia should not have had the right to take and claim ALL of Ukraine for themselves without the whole free world throwing a hissy fit..oh the shame..
Strategic weapon systems like the SSBNs are only successful if they are never used.
Total BS. The US submarine fleet is far superior to Russia’s. Only one aircraft carrier in the Russian navy, and it’s an old outdated piece of floating junk.
Russia is losing, just as Germany was long before the WW2 ended.
That doesn't change the fact that Russian soldiers are undisciplined thugs. They do not like being killed by the thousands and will exact revenge when they can.
I did say that Ukraine has a shadow of a chance if NATO enters the fray. Certainly not a guarantee. But the most serious impediment to the US is the prepositioning of forces that would be required. Months of preparation. I think that the war would be over by the time that the US would be ready anyway. And yes, I also think that the Russian weaponry is superior to whatever NATO has, and in the production of ammunition as well.
The biggest issue is what is known as Anti-access/area denial. As you mentioned there would have to be troop buildup. Problem is the Russians aren't going to allow anyone to build up troops in close proximity to their border with the goal of attacking. This is the reason for the existence of advanced missiles.
It's possible to launch attacks from international waters via ships, but in that case only so much power can be projected. Then there is issue of putting those ships in the path of anti-ship ballistic missiles which were pioneered by Soviet.
